Prefered linux client and softphone

Postby mudasir » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:19 pm

Hi,

I would like to know which linux distro and version is more prefered as a client system.
I am using Ubuntu Server 8.04 on Server.
I tried installing Ubuntu Desktop 10.04, but it is not giving good performance.
Most of the client system config is
HP D530
512MB RAM
40GB HDD
2.8GHZ

Also which Softphone is more prefered and can be very easily installed in the prefered Distro.

Looking forward for a positive reply.
Kind Regards

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried twinkle, and it requires allot of prerequisites, and takes time to get installed.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and tried twinkle on that.

Still my question remains the same, which Distro is less resource hungry and which soft-phone is easy to install and use.

Also agents have to use a Java based web application for which Java SDK and JRE needs to be installed.

I need to migrate all agents to linux OS as soon as possible.
Kind Regards

Try Xlite for Linux. It runs on Ubuntu 10.04 fine. It's free but not open source. It's easy to use and install.

Hi,

My question still remains the same.

Which linux distro is less resource consuming that can be installed on client end, and can run soft-phone (xlite or anyother) and a Java Web Application.
Client System specs are

HP D530
2.8GHz
512MB RAM
40GB HDD.
Creative Sound Blaster 5.1

I would like to know which linux distro will be the most effective for above config.
Kind Regards

Ubuntu then you can use a lighter window manager instead of the gnome or kde desktop
