How safe or dangerous is to change vici.vicidialnow.org from the host and network file under /etc/sysconfig ?

you can add it no risk
i recomend the use of webmin to do it directly via the module

Yep! No danger at all. You can change the hostname in "/etc/sysconfig/network". Reboot your machine or restart the network interface for the changes to take effect.

But after changing it, sendmail gets stuck while booting up !!
