X-lite not logging; Meetme.conf problem. How to reinstall?

Hi!
I had problem logging into vicidial with X-Lite 3.0

vicidial scratch installation on ubuntu8.04- 64 and asterisk 1.4.27
AMD64 TK-53, 45GB HDD, 1.5GB RAM, meant for 4 users

Installation succeeded on the 3rd time
Using this method:
VICI:UbuntuInstall

Admin logs in; Campaigns, phones, users, severs, carriers, groups and Lists create and load normally.
Agent can log in and navigate through leads.

But X-lite did not work: Phone shows as registered, but vici reports cannot call agent

Then I read a post here that a meetme.conf file with only 5 lines is a sign of bad install; my GUI has many conferences, but my meetme.conf is the same 5-liner

will said it's a bad install, and requires reinstall.....

So, Should I wipe out Ubuntu and reinstall EVERYTHING, or just from
step " - FOR 1.4 asterisk" onward?

Is meetme.conf populated by asterisk "make samples" or MySQL first_server_install.sql script?

I feel I'm soooo close :) Please help me out

Thanks

Is meetme.conf populated by asterisk "make samples" or MySQL first_server_install.sql script?
Later versions of vicidial will populate that when the script that writes the configuration files runs after a change is made to phones/carriers etc., earlier versions would have that file created during Vicidial Installation (install.pl in the vicidial installation folder in /usr/src/vicidial/VERSION) if you answer "copy sample configuration files" with a Y.

but since this is NOT an asterisk configuration file (this one is special to vicidial), asterisk is not going to install the vicidial version of it. and it's not a table in a database so the .sql file will not have any link to it at all.

Now:
WHY on earth are you scratch installing on Ubuntu instead of Using Vicibox 1.0.0RC2 (which is Ubuntu 8.04LTS) or Vicibox Redux 3.1.13 (which is admittedly not Ubuntu but IS supported by the entire Vicidial community the most important of which is The Vicidial Group itself)? (Just a question, sometimes it helps to understand your restrictions.)

Thanks for a reply. I am new to the forum and did not see your answer; for some reason email notification failed.

Anyway, I did scratch because "SOME EXPERT GUY" suggested it to me. I liked scratch better than GAD because it allowed the flexibility of choosing partition.
I have it on dual-boot with Vista, which I use for my needs in case of emergency.
Besides, I need to rename some fields in agent screen in vicidial.conf ; I already know how to do in in Ubuntu, but Vicibox is SuSe - not sure if renaming will work the same.

So, I reinstalled again starting from Asterisk, because all "apt-get" showed "latest version"
Unfortunately, /etc/asterisk/meetme.conf is sitll a 5-liner.
Is it the reason why X-lite registers on the server but will not play "You are the only person in the conference"?

Now, if you would be so kind, I need help on with several questions:
1) Pls advise if I should wipe out ubuntu and do-over, or start from a certain point of step-by-step scratch installation instructions?
If another version/package of Vici will allow me to change labels on agent screen, It would be also acceptable.
2) Could you please tell me which file I need to edit to change "Address3", "Province" and other labels in "Old Lead Loader" ?
3) Something wired happens with my screens:
after reinstall I saw 4 screens, after reboot 3 screens, another reboot: 6 screens, 1 hour later - 5 screens. I did not change anything, but "screen -ls" output changes. Is it normal?

Thanks!

1) Vicibox will allow partitioning during install. I've never attempted a dual boot of course. But a 250G HD is under $40 now, so we just don't need to.

2) The vicidial installation is identical across all installs (even vicidialnow and goautodial have the original vicidial "php" files somewhere and they are usable ... in short: renaming ANYTHING is the same across all installations).

3) When installing for Vicidial these days, I recommend NOT using the "latest version": ONLY use the vici patched versions directly from The Vicidial Group's servers. And then you don't have to pull out your hair.
