Server Configuration

Postby dev_4901 » Mon Mar 26, 2007 11:08 am

Hi,

The current configuration that I have here at my setup is :
a) x206 IBM 3.0GHz HT, 1 GB RAM - Vici server
b) PIV 2.4GHz , 1 GB RAM - MySQL server
c) Vicidial v2.0
d) Asterisk v1.2.14
e) Using g729 compression
f) No. of Agents - 15
g) Recording all calls but not mixing them, mixing is done during startup of the Vici server.

Now when the mentioned number of agents log in, the loadavg is nearly 70%(sometimes peaks to 85%).

If I want about 10 more agents to log in, can just increasing the RAM to 2 GB on my Vici server be enough?

Plz suggest.

try to change the g729 codec to gsm codec.

g729 uses high cpu load.

I know that, but cannot help it. My VoIP provider supports only g729 must be bcoz of bandwidth constraints.

What is your dial level? RAM will definately help however you will probably be better off trying to get a Dual-Core style server.

I use adaptive method only, maximum level being 3.0

The dual-core would certainly help but I'm currently not in a position to get a dual-core or Xeon based processor. Plus it would mean change of the mbd as well, which might result in me compiling the kernel again.

Add this Digs-into-your-wallet card and the G729 won't tax the Intel inside your machine anymore.

The ever confusing question has risen again........... :?

I plan to buy a Quad-Core 1.86GHz machine with 2 GB RAM and Hot Plug SAS. I can increase the RAM in case the number of agents increase.

The questions that I have are:
1. How many agents can this machine take? (Using g729 compression here)

2. Does the current kernel version 2.6.17.11 support SAS drives? If yes what all components do I have to include while building the new kernel?

Plz advice.

just to give you an idea, this is my current setup:

(asterisk/vicidial I)
amd x2 4600
2 gig ram
80 gig sata hd
g729 codec
full recording

(asterisk/vicidial II)
amd x2 4600
2 gig ram
80 gig sata hd
g729 codec
full recording

(mysql/apache)
amd x2 4600
4 gig ram
80 gig sata

this setup handles 40 agents (20 per asterisk - even 25) w/ dial level up to 2.5 or sometimes 3.

im using centos 64bit version w/ the default kernel.
