How can a manager enter conversation with agents and client

I have the basic vicidial set up for outbound dialing.
I use manual dialing mode. There are 30 agents logged in to the system.
I would like to know the options using which

*) The manager can listen to the conversation and if needed join in the conference.
*) There is a field Admin Hijack and Admin Monitor in Phones, i tried setting them to 1 but not able to figure out how they actually function.

Just dial the agents session id from your soft phone. You can find it in VDAD.
People complicate things for them to provide simple solutions.
