agent with remote extension

Postby Freddy_rixcom » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:27 pm

Hi all,
i'm trying to set up a telework test. My agent work from home on a vicidial sistem over a http connection and an IAX2 extension.
Testing the sistem from my house with an ADSL 1.2 Mbit up 640 Kbit down it works well. My agent has an ADSL 640 K down 256 up and he's got problem with connection. Loss of band causes a problem doing log-out of the agent and disconnecting from Vicidial session.
Has someone a suggestion to set this up better than now? (upgrading connection has already been considered...)
Thanks in advance

hey!.

Freddy, i think that no is a problem with connection, maybe with asterisk configuration. Check externip on sip.conf and RTP ports on server network connection.

Do you talk only softphone --> asterisk ?.

Regards.

A few ideas:
-make sure in the agent's local network no one is downloading torrents etc. at that time. There are people even unaware that they are using p2p program, saying "umm someone put it here and I just get movies with it". The bandwidth you mention should be sufficient for the purpose as long as it's somehow real, not 'up to XX whenever all the clients in the same network go on holiday'. Have you measured the real speed?
-check his PC for malware
-monitor network usage if possible in the router, or at least on his PC
-try with another router if possible
-try the latest vicidial from svn
- as a last resort try another provider if possible. Or get wireless i-net from a nice neighbor just to test if problem is in the ISP.

Does this happen all the time or occasionally?
What does continuous ping from his PC to the server say?
How far is the agent from the server? Same town? Same country? Another continent?

hi,
i'm almost sure that the problem is not located in vicidial but in the agent connection.
He use a wi-fi connection from a local provider, we are in Italy in the same town. We use an hdsl connection bidirectional with minimal band guaranteed.
Like a newbie i've not tested the agent connection with the normal test you suggest. I will do it as soon as possible.
I think also that vicidial, using asterisk has a 60 seconds refresh time for extension set it by default. Recompiling asterisk with another time may be useful for you?
In alternative, is there a vicidial setting that can make connection more stable and bypass loss of connection between server and client?
Thank in advance

Hello.

You try set the timeout expiry to the sip server to less seconds, 10, 20 or 30 seconds...

:)

Do you have a chance to test using wired connection? I would start from that one.

At this time I supply 6 iax extension that work off vicidial without problem. Therefore those ones are configured to use VD and in test stage they work correctly with a 1.2 Mbit connection. Monitoring extension, it looks like a problem with web platform that requires too much band to work. With a broadband connection VD web pages load correctly and the problem is off.
