HARDWARE CONSIDERATION FOR VICI

Postby ruben23 » Wed Apr 22, 2009 12:21 pm

HI

i have currently 2 servers for my setup...

1 database/WEb and 1 asterisk dialler

ill be expanding form 12 seats to 30 seats...thus this setup can still handles the numbers i expected for expansion...how about the max capacity this setup can handle.

i hear from a consultant that with my setup max is 25 agents..if i go for 30 then ill add up 1 asterisk server...is this true....?

Honestly without knowing the stats on the servers this is hard to answer. We get about 50-70 agents per "dialer" here using decent hardware. We have a monster mysql server that can handle hundreds of agents and using a quad core xeon web server we have no trouble with 150-200 agents.

That looks pretty good to handle more than 25 agents, the only point of concern would be the G729 compression. I'm not sure how much that hits the CPU if your using a software compressions solution. We use G729 between our centers, but we also use the hardware compression card sold by Digium (which doesn't hit the CPU for the compression). Your mysql/apache server looks like it can handle a fair number of agents and even more with more RAM. I would run the 25 agents and watch your memory usage / load averages. If all is well scale up, if not add a second dialer.

put an asterisk server on the dbase if you dont want to add another server for your 30 seats. so like dbase/asterisk 5-10 seats then on the other asterisk server put the 20 seats

But if it goes beyond that. Its going to be a job suicide.

It is really better to waste resources on hardware than getting 1k usd per seat license. and also it might be an overkill but if you dont have a downtime on a per month basis then it is all worth it.
