inbound IAX2 calls fail

I have something strange suddenly happening. In the CLI I see

NOTICE[4915]: chan_iax2.c:7242 socket_read: Rejected connect attempt from [here the ip of remote IAX server] , who was trying to reach '01604420081@'

This happened once before and the providers trace logs showed no error, I deleted and recreated the Carrier record and it was OK. This time, deleting and recreating the record had no effect. Is there somewhere I can see where this @ is being appended? The carriers trace logs show only the 01604420081 being sent.

I have the same problem and I have tried literately every possible way to fix it up but without success.
