Squid Server

Postby wilson » Mon Nov 09, 2009 7:57 am

Has anyone tried running Vicidial behind a Squid server?

I am looking for a way to control or atleast report internet usage on our computers but dont want to break Vicidial or Asterisk.

I know that Vicidal does not really like Proxy servers, but as Squid is very flexiable I was thinking it might be possible to configure it in a way that does not cause any problems. Does anyone have any experience with this or recomend a different way to control internet access?

i have tried minor proxy setups and have not had serious issues unless using all available resources. depends on the power of your proxy (which, ordinarily, need to have a fairly decent capacity to handle multiple clients ...).

but it would be very useful if you were to try it and see how it affects your capacity, and post the specs on the squid server and what you observed its affect to be on your capacity.

very cool.

Hi,
all my vicidial installations are running behind a IpCop-firewall without any issues at all.
Because it comes with a GUI it is easy to configure if you use it for the first time.
IpCop uses squid as a web proxy.
Thanks,
heinz

but is that web proxy being used for inbound or outbound (do your local users have to hit squid to surf the web, or do users OUTSIDE your local web have to hit squid to get INTO your vicidial)?

Hi,
I never had a setup with remote agents but I think it should work through portforwarding of external access.
For INBOUND / OUTBOUND it works both ways.
There are two ethernet cards in the IpCop machine - one for the internal network and one for the outside world.
Connection to the VOIP-provider through SIP.
Works really nice and is easy to maintain...

The SIP trunk is limited to a maximum of 30 concurrent calls.
There is almost no load on the IPcop machine - therefore I assume it could handle a lot more...
