Issue Installatin Vicibox5 64

Postby AGA » Thu Jan 23, 2014 7:39 am

dear,
i tried to install Vicibox5 on a new HP Proliant ML350p Gen8 server.
I have a P420i Raid 6 installed, 32 G Ram and 2 processors Xeon E5-2603
i downloaded http://download.vicidial.com/iso/vicibo ... -5.0.3.iso and burnt it.
After the first screen with the choice of Failsafe or "Normal" install, the screen shuts down and the server hangs ...
Is that a known bug ?
Thanks for your Feedback,
Sincerely
AGA

Make sure that the iso isn't corrupt, check the md5sum

or its missing drivers for that hardware, suse got some kind of driver kit for gen8 servers http://drivers.suse.com/hp/HP-ProLiant-Gen8/
In worst case you might need to do a scratch install, but check the md5sum first

fought with this for a while on my DL160 server. Make sure you have all the updated firmware for your controllers, use the smart start CD's. use the HP raid utility and make sure all is detected/setup properly. Even after all this i was unable to install normally. Had to use the fail safe install. I think it ends up just being a video driver conflict of some sort.

Used the failsafe install and linux RAID 10 for both dl160's as the onboard embedded b110i controller is garbage. No issues with the DL360 server . try it in failsafe mode and see if it helps.

Assuming you still have video during the grub screen, and lose it shortly thereafter:
We've had luck on several machines with modification of the video mode on the grub boot line. We've actually had to go through all the possibilities for the setting a few times to find the "right" one, but so far ... it's worked well.

ahh ok, I tried a few boot options but it wasn't working. Do you recall what ended up working for you? Is there any detriment to using the failsafe boot to install?

Specifically modifying the video mode to all available options on the boot line one at a time. Different success for each server upon which we tried. Yes, try all possible values until you "get lucky".

I don't believe there's a problem with failsafe, in fact it's entirely possible that the failsafe performs the entire installation exactly as the regular installation, but with a different video mode (!) and kernel. I don't think it install the kernel it boots from, but you could certainly check. If so, then there's no actual difference in the final install. One way to check would be to find out what the video mode is for the failsafe boot line and use it for the non-failsafe ... :)

Ok, I was wondering because I used failsafe install on the two DL160's to get them to work (web/telephone) They are both working in production right now but hopefully not missing anything :). tried a couple video modes and figured i had no choice.

check the installed kernel. is it he failsafe kernel or the normal one? (ie: did it install the kernel you were running during the install or the default kernel ...?)
