How to Install VPN Server on the Vicibox.

Postby vkjalan » Mon Feb 21, 2011 10:42 am

Hi,
I have installed Vicibox 3.1.8 ISO with no additional software's and also read the managers manual. Ok here is a scenario I have a server sitting behind a firewall and a private network with no direct access to the machine through the internet. I need to setup a VPN to access the dialer from outside the network as i need to connect the agents from home.

Please suggest me a solution also any detailed page explaining how exactly to do this.

Your kind help will be highly appreciated.

Let me get this straight: You installed GoAutoDial AND Vicibox 3.1.8 on two different machines with no internet access at the same time and want to VPN them? (or is this a double post?)

This is not a double post. I have two separate servers running. Also there is internet connection to It. But its on a private network through a gateway connected to the internet. I hope i am being able to explain.

I want VPN in order to connect my agents on to the dialer for them to dial from home. If i dont VPN the server how is it possible for the agents to loggin in to the server.

Please explain.

use port forwarding or virtual servers in your router. you can forward port 81 to one server and 82 to another server and have your agents log in to "http://yourserver.com:82/vicidial/welcome.php"

the same concept applies for SIP ports (5060 & 5061) and IAX ports (4569). But you may have issues with SIP unless you have a special router (using zoiper is a simple method to resolve this issue, since it has IAX for your agents). And just in case you're going to ask, IAX for the agents does not mean you need to change your SIP trunks at all.

I dont have access to the router as i am on a leased premises. We have been given internal Ip address to work on thats it.

Now i need to position a VPN on the server so that my agents can connect to the server VIA VPN and access the dialer.

I have internet on the dialer but i cant do any port forwarding or any changes in the network i.e. router or firewalls.

you want to do vpn ... without any access to the router and without pointing any ports to anything specific on your local network.

interesting. you could look at using iptables to "tunnel" to another machine at the remote office (the vicidial would reach out and open a tunnel to the remote machine that WOULD have ports pointed to it, creating a tunnel through which you could set up your vpn).

beyond that i'd have to turn you over to my network person.

Well I think i found an answer myself.

I used a Free VPN tool to connect to one of the machines on the network which runs a windows Xp. Once i got connected to that i could access the server and also loggin to the dialer and take calls. I should see what problems we face.

I have setup a VPN between my network and the leased premises network. I am being able to loggin to the dialer from my computer by entering the ip of the leased premises directly and not of the VPN ip. also i have logged into the dialer using Xlite and making calls and receiving them without any problems till now.

We got to see the practicality of the software how this works and will it work on the long run.

its a free offerings ! Call quality is good no issues what so ever. I think i should setup a few IAX on the dialer and use Zoiper. That may yield better results. Just a trail and error method.

I think you're in the wrong place. VPN on iOS9 is not related to Vicidial. I may suggest you be blacklisted if you don't respond with something that sounds like you know where you are. LOL

This question is completely unrelated to Vicidial or Vicibox and certainly has nothing to do with a Vicibox Server Install.

This question is about VPN. It should be asked on a board related to VPN specifically.

While my company (along with hundreds of others) handle this sort of thing when it comes up, that's not why I come to this board (on the free side of GNU). Here I tend to stick to on-topic posts about Vicidial. Not to say someone else won't drop in and lend you a hand, but I am saying your odds are significantly improved by posting the question on a VPN related board. Like trying to buy cigarettes in a toy store (not very good odds since the 70s).

Can I install VPN on Vicibox? I have Vicibox and I need to install Canada VPN, I gone through Google search as well but found no information on how to install VPN on Vicibox. If anyone can explain it step by step would be great. Thanks

Canada VPN is an online service. If you want to modify the network on the Vicidial server to pass all traffic through Canada VPNs servers, you should ask Canada VPN for the appropriate instructions for Linux servers to link to their systems. Or a VPN forum. Vicidial is not in any way related to VPN.

Note that your call quality is likely to be seriously degraded by attempting to pass all traffic through a remote online VPN service. Hardware based VPN (like a Cisco VPN router married to a hardware VPN router in Canada ...) would be a much better solution. Less likely to have poor call quality.

If your goal is for your calls to appear to be coming from Canada, you could lease a server in Canada (or the US if all you need is North America).
