PoundTeam cluster guide vs. Official ViciBox cluster guide

Postby spacejanitor » Mon Jan 02, 2012 2:18 pm

I'm looking to upgrade my current 1-machine installation to a 3-server cluster, and I'm looking at two of the guides out there on how to do so.

The first one, from the ViciBox team, is a lot less detailed and "simpler":

However, the one from PoundTeam expands on a lot of extra post-installation details that seem essential to have the cluster actually running properly:

Is the PoundTeam one outdated (ie, time synch gets automatically configured during the ViciBox installer now?)? Or does it assume that one is installing everything from scratch and not using ViciBox?

Any help appreciated.

use the vicibox (not vicibox team, lol) installer. if it fails in any way, use the poundteam manual to diagnose your issue.

in theory the time sync (ntp) and all other issues should be resolved during installation ... but having a manual handy will be useful just in case.

also worthy of note: you'll need to match the versions during installation precisely. so you may want to svn up your present install (and let it run for a couple days to be sure you didn't break anything) before you begin so they will match.

and PLEASE do a FULL backup BEFORE you begin and VERIFY that your DATABASE is actually backed up with data in it (empty database backups can wreak havoc on an otherwise happy upgrade ...).

Ok, thanks :)

So stuff like adding conferences through MySQL and creating server entries in the DB server is all done through the ViciBox installer now?

Also - should agent softphones register to the Asterisk Server, while their browsers actually NAVIGATE to the Web Server?

The poundteam link still works but the simpler vixi box install link is no longer available. Can anyone point me towards a link that works PLEASE? I am in same shoes. My first cluster setup and I have a deadline and I am still trying to understand detailed concepts of cluster so I am going to start with vici box then eventually build from scratch hopefully :)

Vicibox clustering is built in to the vicibox installer now, so there is really no need for a vicibox guide anymore.
