hi all,

this is my first post here.

I downloaded the latest ViciBox_v10.x86_64-10.0.1.iso
used a new Hyper-V gen2 to do an installation by following the manual.pdf on the official page

all good up to the point where i cant ping anything from within my VM on the internet.
i can access the server fine and vicidialer ok ONLY from the Hypervisor "host" system, not outside.

the VM is on a Windows server 2022 hosting i cant share ips but lets say hypothetical the ips are:
static ip: 88.88.88.44
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 88.88.88.1

here is the results of ip route:

on the same VM host, I have another VM with windows10, and that one just has access to the internet just fine.
so the problem is not related to Windows Host firewall or, lan card, or physical connections etc.
they both use the same VirtualLan type of external ofcourse
i tried disabling the yast firewall from startup
i have static ip (there is no way a DHCP will ever work cause the network doesnt have one from the hosting provider)
i have set the DNS server to google and anonymus 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1
i have provided the IP for gateway i was given from the hosting provider (same like in the windows vm and there works fine)
    i have disabled ipv6, i only need ipv4

but nothing. i cant even ping my gateway it freezes!

what am i missing?
i am posting here my yast lan and firewall hoping you can help me.

thanks a lot for your time

We don't recommend using VMs at all for VICIdial use for a multitude of reasons. We don't do testing on VMs, and I've never used Hyper-V, so I wouldn't be much help here at all.

hi,

i see a lot of people are using it here and had no issues like i never had vm issues actually with much older versions,
but lets by pass that fact for a moment, lets say that this was a stand alone bare metal installation and we had the exact same problem.
so you have any ideas as to why it cant even ping its gateway?
what settings should i look for?
is there any kind of "firewall" or other blocking mechanism that could prevent the system from "seeing" the outside world?

regards

I've never had that problem unless there is some kind of network issue outside of the machine. It's not a VICIbox problem.

its ok, i found the problem. it turns out there was nothing wrong with my setup, the ISP that sold me the IP address has assigned it to the Hypervisor system's MAC address instead of the VM Mac address i am using!
i spotted it, told them to change it and now the VM is able to access to world and the world the VM as it should be!

i am leaving this here for anyone else ever facing the same problem.
Always remember assign your public IP address to your VM's Mac address not your physical server MAC address. Either you do that or those who sale you the ip.

:D
