VICIDIAL Planning

Postby konextu » Fri Jan 23, 2009 3:07 pm

After reading the FAQ page and comming across:

asterisk server: single-core opteron (since all transcoding and calls still go through one core in asterisk, it doesn't make sense to buy a multi-core or hyperthreaded system that will only slow you down)

My question is does this still stand true? I was going to put MySQL and Slackware on a 2x quad-core xeon box with 12 gigs of ram, and Asterisk/VICIDIAL on an equivilant machine but with 8 gigs of ram but if i'm reading that right i'd be better of saving that server and using a single core server? Or is this outdated information?

Sorry, confused soldier.

Please post or PM me the link where you saw that, no this is not true. Multi-core systems are a very good idea with VICIDIAL.

http://astguiclient.sourceforge.net/faq.html

in the last entry "hardware recommendations from john hood"

just search for opteron on the page.

Finally got around to figuring out sourceforge's new authentication and server naming schemes and updated this page a bit.
