I see the term hooper on vicidial a lot, especially on the campaign settings. What does exactly means hooper. Does it has single meaning or the meaning of this word depend when is used..

Thanks in advance!

The vicidial hopper is used to temporarily hold calls in a small "memory table" for future dialing. This allows the dialing script to refer to a very small record set (very quickly!) when actually dialing. This table (the vicidial hopper table) is loaded every 60 seconds with approximately enough calls to last two minutes. So it will never run out, but it will have (for instance) only 50-500 records for each campaign instead of (for instance) 3 million records for each campaign.

This way the MySQL query that asks for the next several numbers to dial for this campaign can return in about a nanosecond with almost no load on the dialer. Keeps Vicidial humming at a pretty good pace.

So if you are a single agent on the system, is it safe to set this to 5 without losing any calls?

that depends. do you expect to dial more than five calls in one minute?
