app_conference crash, current app_conference usable?

Postby avalentin » Thu May 31, 2007 10:00 am

I just had a crash with app_conference and a TE212 zaptel card.
I got the following messages from the thread:

If more information is needed I have the full debug output from asterisk.

I use it because with meetme conferences I always have echo problems on the dell hardware.
Dows anybody have experience with the current version of app_conference? Is it usable for vicidial?

Thanks in advance,

André

what app_conference version?

What Asterisk version?

I had abandoned app_conference because noone was able to fix the double-free bugs in it which causes crashes so I don't know if it will work with the most recent versions of Asterisk, but if you use the app_conference version packaged with astguiclient it will work on earlier 1.2 tree Asterisk releases. Until it crahses that is.

The current 1.2.18 meetme is many times more stable which is why I recommend it over app_conference.

app_conference version

Postby avalentin » Thu May 31, 2007 1:19 pm

Hello!

currently i used the app_conference version 1.7 shipped with vicidial. The asterisk used is of version 1.2.17. On appconference at sourceforge in the svn I found a newer one with video support;-), it compiles fine with asterisk. I made a diff between those versions but couldn't detemine if that bug is fixed. Perhaps I give it a try, but I think have to merge parts of your version of app_conference. Could you tell me what of your mods is essential to vicidial?
I really made good experience on a system which has no zaptel card in it, also a dell system with a TE212 which had big echo was better with app_conference.
You meant meetme 1.2.18 is more stable, do you think it is usable with vicidial 2.0.2 and 2.0.3?

Bye,

André

The version shipped with VICIDIAL has changes in it that make it work with VICIDIAL, the sourceforge app_conference version does NOT work with VICIDIAL because it does not have the changes needed for it to be a drop-in replacement for meetme.

You would need to do a DIFF of the two codebases to find the changes that would need to be made. I don't have the time to do that unless someone would sponsor that project.

Hello!

I think i try to patch your changes into the current version. Could you tell me which version you initially took and modified. I found this one app_conference.tar.gz on eflo net , but I'm not sure.

I used a CVS version of app_conference to build off of, it was from early 2006 I believe.

app_conference

Postby avalentin » Wed Jun 06, 2007 2:36 pm

Hi!

I patched the version from sourceforge.net "trunk/1.0" (in the svn repository) with your mods. I didn't have any problems until now, but I couldn't test it with more than 5 agents. Because I saw that most times when app_conference crashed, there was a zaptel error, I disabled the zaptel support in asterisk. Perhaps that helped too.

If anybody want's to try that version, send me a pm.

If you get a chance, please post it to the VICIDIAL Issue Tracker.

app_conference crash, current app_conference usable?

Hi Matt,

after some days of operation with the new patched version, I noticed the same problems as you. So it's not worth it.
