Sip Trunk?? - what are they - do we need them?

Postby center55 » Sun Jun 10, 2007 5:56 pm

Hi...I'm thinking of installing vicidialer on a hosted dedicated server...P4...or higher.....

now there are alot of companies out there who host dedicated servers...BUT...someone told us that we have to make sure that there is a sip trunk....

also i looked at the vicidial min. config., and I saw this " Zap trunks(T1/E1 or PSTN lines), IAX2 trunks or SIP trunks equired"....

... now we are starting from scratch...and we have no existing PBX...we will have all agents calling remotely from their homes etc....on their own computers with broadband..

Question - do we still need trunks???...if yes...what type of trunks do we need...and do you have any suggestions on who hosts servers with trunks...

Thanks always for all your help!!

Isaac :)

Hi

Many of the providers in USA, host your server on co-location place
and then you can buy any of the VoIP provider or from same provider
SIP or PSTN Trunks, you need to check with the provider for the same

either he provide the SIP or PSTN trunks, depends on the requirement you need to buy a Digium cards

If SIP trunk you are using with provider, buy X100p card for timer as recomended in the installation

Yes you need a trunk either sip/iax or pri

the trunk connects the pbx with the public phonesystem

confused??

Postby center55 » Mon Jun 11, 2007 1:51 am

I'm sorry, but i'm a bit confused here....I am planning to use vicidial with voip for remote users, using soft phones...

now could you please clarify something for me...

1) when you say trunks - is that a piece of hardware or is that provided to me from a voip termination provider or other??

2) do i need a X100 or
X101 board from Digium or a clone manufacturer so there is a dedicated hardware
timer in place on your system. or can I use software (dummy timer)

3)I'm planning to get a hosted dedicated server for this..from a company like olm.net...and to get someone to install it for me...., Is there anything else specific that i have to ask them (eg. dedicated t1 line?)

Thanx again for all your help

Isaac :)

Hi

1 ) this can be your choice
trunk can be with telecome, or voip provider

2) you can use dummy driver, for high volume
recomended x100p card (20$)

3) after you hosted with Server
you can opt consulting service from any of the people
whomention in www.eflo.net for integration.

again taking T1/E1/SIP/IAX, depends on your requirement

Trunk etc

Postby center55 » Mon Jun 11, 2007 2:16 am

Thanks for the reply...

on question number 3...what i meant.....

Is there anything else specific i need to ask the hosted dedicated server people besides if their server has a X100 or
X101 board from Digium or a clone manufacturer

also ...

do you have any recommendation for trunk providers, and or hosted dedicated server companies

thank you

Isaac :)
