Hardware Recomendation About New Intel Core 2 Quad 8MB Cache

Postby ramonvel » Thu Aug 09, 2007 5:07 pm

Hi Guys,

Per the Hardware Recommendations from Jon Hood:

"- For medium call center (upto 75 seats):
asterisk server: single-core opteron (since all transcoding and calls still go through one core in asterisk, it doesn't make sense to buy a multi-core or hyperthreaded system that will only slow you down)
mysql/astguiclient/apache server: hyperthreaded xeon (since astguiclient relies on a number of scripts being executed in parallel, it's good to have hyperthreaded or dual core systems with astguiclient). Remember to nfs-mount the sound recordings directories! "

I'm planning to get my first real hardware server for Vicidial Installation, possibly will also install VTiger CRM . This is what I'm planning to get :

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 8MB Cache / 2GB DDR2-667 / (3) WD 250GB SATA-II RAID Edition HDDs / RAID 5

How many seats do you think this server will be able to handle, first with 2GB RAM then with 4GB ?

If you are doing recordings I would limit yourself to around 15-20ish users since you do not intend on having a seperate database/apache server. Keep in mind both of those applications (Apache/Mysql) are resource hogs.

I disagree with the assessment on "Dual Core vs. Single Core" I've benchmarked the following

Dual Core 2.4ghz Processor
RAID 5 15k SCSI
4gb RAM

vs

Dual XEON 3.2ghz Processor (With Hyperthreading)
RAID 5 15k SCSI
4gb RAM

the Dualcore (by a long shot) outperformed the dual XEON config.

Hi,

Enjay what was the CPU Cache on both systems? Wouldn't that make a difference?

I can confirm that a dual core system with 24 seats has HALF the load of a single core system of the same cache(per CPU) and comperable speed.

Hi

if you have more than 20+ agents
and looking to record all agents.

recomend to go for modular setup

1 Server Mysql/Apache
1 Server Asterisk/Vicidial for 20 agents
1 Server Asterisk/Vicidial for next 20 agents

each server minimum should be Core 2 with 4 GB RAM with X100p should do the job, as per my experience.

Kindly post your feedback, if this solution works.
so its very usefull for others who join later as a NEWBIE.
