DID with wildcard???

Postby rockgeneral » Thu Jun 17, 2021 9:06 am

I have two campaigns configured. Due to caller id's getting tagged as Spam Likely we need to route through a bunch of DID's we have purchased through our telco. In the past, I have configured each DID individually in Vicidial and pointed them to an in-group so callbacks on the caller id would route into the correct campaign. We need to increase the size of our caller id pool and the rate at which we rotate them.

I was wondering if there was a way to configure a DID entry in Vicidial where it was just the area code followed by a wildcard or matching pattern?

What I was hoping to do was assign one campaign a bunch of DID's for caller id that starts with one area code. Let's say 201. Then for the other campaign, I would assign a bunch of 732 DID's to use as caller id's. I was hoping that I could configure something like 201XXXXXXX that would accept incoming calls to any of my DID's starting with 201, routing them to the 1st campaign. Then another DID entry something like 732XXXXXXX that would accept incoming calls to any of my DID's starting with 732, routing them to the 2nd campaign.

Is this possible?

From what I understand, AC-CID setup would allow me to configure what caller id is used for outbound calls based on matching the area code configured.

What I am asking about above is not how to control the caller id that each campaign is going to use on its outbound calls. I wanted to know if there was a way I could configure a single DID entry that only had the area code and then some type of wild card so that DID entry would be used for all incoming calls where the DID began with that area code. In my example I use 201. I wanted to configure a DID that would route all calls on DID's starting with 201 and route using the settings configured in the DID.

I want to do this because I am probably going to be adding 100 DID's for this campaign. I wanted to avoid having to configure a Vicidial DID entry for each of them. And since I have multiple campaigns I couldn't simply not configure them and allow the "default" DID entry to route the call. This is why I was thinking that if a DID entry can be setup that would match all DID's starting with a certain area code, I would create one entry for campaign with one area code. And another DID entry for campaign 2 with one area code.

I hope this clarifies what I am looking to do.

That is not currently an option in VICIdial. Although we have had clients do some manual dialplan modifications in the [trunk-inbound] context of /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf to just forward groups of inbound numbers to a single DID, that would not retain the actual DID that is used in the logs.

Thanks for clarifying Matt.

For centers that primarily outbound dial and need to utilize a lot of caller id's, do they configure a DID entry for each one so they can route inbound calls back in? Or do they usually NOT configure them and then let the "default" DID handle the routing?

We get clients doing both. But, usually they use the "Admin Bulk Tools" to just mass-create DID entries. It doesn't take much time using that utility to manage the DIDs or the CID Group entries.

Ahh I forgot about the "Admin Bulk Tools". Thanks for the tip.
