64bit Redux

Postby fibres » Wed Mar 02, 2011 7:45 am

Hi

Can anyone tell me if the 64bit Version of Redux 3.1.9 is a full version or only for database server?

I thought it was full version but then I saw somewhere that the 64but was only for dedicated database.

Can someone confirm this for me?

Regard
Vicibox 4.0.3 ISO install.

64 bit started out as database but has been merged and 32/64 bit releases are now fully functional for all server types.

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

are we likely to see any real difference my upgrading to the 64bit version?

We are running on Zeon quad core machines.

Regards
Vicibox 4.0.3 ISO install.

The database is really the only thing that benefits from using 64-bit, and the only benefit there is on increased availability to more RAM.

the 32 bit version of ViciBox already supports 8GB RAM, if you want more than that you should use the 64bit version.

The PAE kernel might support the 8gb of ram but MySQL 32bit won't be able to use more than 4gb. Go with 64bit.

MySQL 32-bit CAN use more than 4GB RAM, it is just limited to 4GB per thread, not 4GB in total. I have installed several 32-bit MySQL servers over the years with 8GB RAM that MySQL had no problem gobbling almost all of the RAM on the machine.

32-bit MySQL uses less RAM for the same functions as the 64-bit version, and for most queries it is actually faster too.

Although it must be said that for larger high-volume systems you will need 64-bit MySQL because of the higher RAM support, and you very well may need more than 4GB of RAM per thread on a 64GB RAM MySQL server.
