Ideal VICIDIAL Implementation

Ok folks now we can help each other by telling us what do you think the best implementation / environment for vicidial. For example


Mine:

1 Asterisk Server Dual Xeon With 1GB of memory and 120 GB Space with x100p

1 Asterisk Server Pentium 4 with 1 GB of memory and 120 GB Space using ztdummy

1 apache/mysql Pentium 4 with 1 GB of Memory and 80 gb of space

Clients are using IP Phones and some are using xlite.

I was thinking about using channelbanks to minimize the network load.

running 30 agents with full recordings

how about yours?

Ideal servers would have SCSI drives in a RAID if you are doing recording. Also, you will want servers with Dual core CPUs.

Chanelbanks help, but not because of a reduction in network traffic, they help because the audio path is straight Zaptel with no conversion to SIP streams.

Mine is :

Running on 32 Seats:

1 apache/mysql Pentium 4 3.2 Dual Core with 2GB of memory and 500GB Sata Drive

1 Asterisk/Vicidial Pentium4 3.2 Dual Core with 2GB of memory and 250GB Sata Drive with Astribank 32 Channel Bank

the load of apache is about 0.45 to 0.80
the load of asterisk/vicidial without full recording and 2.2 ratio for 32 agents is about 2.0 to 2.5 loadavg

Our center has:

1 asterisk/vicidial - AMD64 Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ w/ 4 gb ram and 80 gb sata

1 asterisk/vicidial - AMD64 Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ w/ 3 gb ram and 80 gb sata

1 mysql/apache - Intel P4 Dual Core 3.0 ghz w/ 1 gig ram

1 nfs/nis/ftp - Intel Celeron 2.80 ghz w/ 2 gig ram and a 400 gb and 80 gb hd.

We currently have 22 agents but will expand soon to 40 - 50. Load average on the dialers is usually between 0.30 - 0.70 with full recordings. Sometimes spiking up to 1.00.

All our workstations are using linux w/ nis and nfs enabled for centralized information.

Using KDE for the desktop in kiosk mode.

I am looking to setup a system for a potential client looking to run upto 15 seats. They have one server machine with the following specs:

1. Processor: Duo Core 3.2 Ghz
2. HDD: 250 IDE (Can use SATA but unsure of advantages)
3. RAM: 2 GB
4. Zaptel: ztdummy
5. Recording: All calls
6. Maximum Channels: 45 using (22 g729/23 GSM)

Can this machine handle the load and possibly provide decent cell phone voice quality?

When recording all calls you should really go with WD Raptor-SATA drives or SCSI drives if possible, they are designed to take the constant read/write that is needed to do recording of all calls and not die within a few months.

Intel Core 2 Duo is better than Intel Core Duo

Im not sure that you can run 15 seats when recording all calls and just that kind of hard disk, you should use SATA or SCSI hard drives just like what Matt said, also you might want to invest on a X100p card for better timing rather than using ztdummy

Thanks for the info. I have tried many ways to trying to get SATA drives to work after a 2.6 kernel rebuild but it just doesnot seem to work. Any information on this would help. Thanks.

Mr Matt recomended to
go for western digital raptor IDE or more recording
15000RPM SCSI recomended
