Hi

You also need to purchase the Manager and Agent Manuals to fully understand VICIDIAL.

Here is the link:

http://www.vicidial.org/store.php

Not only do they offer excellent information but the purchase also helps to keep the VICIDIAL project as AWESOME as it is. If you don't know VICIDIAL yet, be assured, you are going to be amazed. I see in your original post however that you are using Trixbox? That was one of my first searches on the VICIDIAL forum and by now I can tell you......... STAY AWAY! No, let me correct myself, Trixbox is great, so I don't mean stay away from Trixbox, but if your idea is to run VICIDIAL on a Trixbox system then you are begging for problems. If your idea is to run them on seperate servers, VICIDIAL for outbound and Trixbox for inbound then it will work. However, then there is no need to have Trixbox because VICIDIAL can do just as well, maybe better, on inbound. If you are running a small office then stay with Trixbox........... if you are running a call center then VICIDIAL will make you very happy! :D

In terms of your question for a CentOS install. Look at the VicidialNOW project. It is based on CentOS. Just go to the VicidialNOW forum, look around and ask your questions. This is an automated install.

Trixbox

Postby frenchsquared » Tue Oct 14, 2008 11:07 am

Yes my idea was to running something with trixbox. But you think I should get rid of trixbox and only run vicidial?

So will vicidial handle all the stuff trixbox does?

I just downloaded the free versions but if I like what I see I will buy the full manuals. I just need to be certain that it will do everything I need.

Im not seeing anything about setting up softphone? I currently have several people using X-lite.

I really dont want to get ride of trixbox. Is there a better app to use?
This is a company and I done like fixing what isnt broke. It just causes problems and makes me look bad.

I have several Ip address and several phone lines. Can I just give vicidial its own Ip and phone lines? I could get it its own T1 Line if needed.

If you run them together on the same system, I say again, you are looking for problems. Trixbox, in my humble opinion, is for "normal" business purposes. If you want a fully fledged call center solution then VICIDIAL is the one. Then again, you must be willing to learn how to create your own dial plans, which is a good thing because you learn about Asterisk and the VICIDIAL functionality FAST! I am sure Matt will also respond to your question when he can with more technical information about the compatibilities of Trixbox and VICIDIAL. In the meantime please do a search in the forums on "Trixbox". A lot of information there.

I think the first question the developers of VICIDIAL will ask you is........ what exactly do you need? What do you use Trixbox for at the moment and what do you want to use VICIDIAL for? It is important for the forum to understand which features of Trixbox is important to you and which features of VICIDIAL you are looking for?

changing systems

Postby frenchsquared » Tue Oct 14, 2008 12:12 pm

I need an automated phone system that can handle about 50 extensions.
It must be able to work with soft phones such as xlite. I have about 10 laptops running xlite that travel frequently. I need these phone to work from any internet connection.

I also have 5 Polycom 501 phones that need to stay compatible.

Features:
Automated receptionist, Time controls, call group, ability to transfer outside system. Meaning transfer automatically to cell phones.

I like being able to track all incoming and outgoing calls.

really I am using the very basics of trixbox.

Trixbox doesnt seem to be capable of creating a call center. I want to add a system that automatically calls a list of numbers then transfers the call to the next available person when the call is answered.

I figured I could find a plugin that would work with trixbox. If not that is ok as long as I can find support for the new application. I am very computer savvy but rather new to linux. However, I can follow directions and have more common scene the the average person.

What can not happen is that I set up this new phone system and nothing works. This is a company and the system needs to be stable. Of course I will set it up and test it before I remove trixbox, but I need the change to go unnoticed to the end user.

Thank You Guys for all the great support. I am only considering the change because of how fast you guys respond and how willing you seem to help. The cost of the manuals is fine and I will help promote your product if everything seems to work as well as this forum. I didn't mention it but my company is an internet marketing firm.

Then VICIDIAL is definitely for you! :D VICIDIAL works with most softphones, including XLite and fully supports remote agents, both inbound and outbound...... that is if you have enough bandwidth for those calls. Remember, VICIDIAL is built upon Asterisk, and also Trixbox. That means the same options could be built in but they have different directions.

I agree with you...... Trixbox is not really meant for an outbound call center environment........It is great though for inbound and if you have little or no knowledge of Asterisk. I have been following Trixbox for the same reason until I stumbled upon VICIDIAL.

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking Trixbox or Elastix, a similar distro to Trixbox, at all. It is all about what you need for your business. I have to give Elastix credit because they have built a wonderful "campaign builder" tool but although they "advertise" it as a predictive dialer it is at most an autodialer and there are almost zero support in the forums.

VICIDIAL however have all the needed functionality and one of the most supportive and responsive forums around. No, I am not affiliated to VICIDIAL in any way........... just giving a couple observations.

I am sure VICIDIAL can offer ALL that you need, but then you have to prepare yourself to do some manual configurations, which is probably a good thing because then you will understand the whole Asterisk "thing" better.
