Initial setup

Postby gladaseya » Thu Nov 12, 2009 6:51 pm

HI,

I'm brand new at this and am trying to make one call to make sure the system will work with my VOIP provider and from my location in China. So far, not so good. For example, I don't know what a v1 editor is. Before you hurt yourself laughing, please take a deep breath. I had an IT guy but he went back to the States and left me stranded. Is there any way to get a "from the beginning" walk through of the initial administrative setup? Once the first call connects, the rest is pretty straight forward.

Maybe I should have named myself pathetically ignorant. <sigh>

Try Managers Manual , costs only 100$ , but gives benefit of 10000$
GoAutoDial CE
VERSION: 2.4-309a
BUILD: 110430-1642
No other software installed on the box.
I've read the manager manual.

Thanks for the advice but looking at the free version, it clearly states that it assumes that the administration setup is already complete. There is no indication that the paid version has the initial setup information. Does it?

Again, I'm operating from mainland China and need to use the CD based "fully functional" sample to setup the sip and make one connection, just one, to prove it will work.

For those of you that have not dealt with this particular location, things don't always work here like they do in other locations.

SIP carrier and phone configurations are done in the web interface which is covered by the manual.

If you're using VicidialNOW, you can read the Getting Started Guide here: http://carlo.taguinod.net/vicidialnow/v ... -guide.pdf . Once you get the basics going, you can get the full manual here: http://www.vicidial.org/store.php .

I've been trying to make the sample CD work and can't. The computer I run it on will not connect to the internet from the CD system. I'm not sure if it's normal or not but I think, before I eat up any more of anyone's time, I need to set up the real thing and go from there.

I had an IT guy that claimed to know all about it (it being whatever we talked about) but fled as soon as challenged. I am now on the hunt for a new guy.

Thanks again for your help and advice. I'm sure I'll be a regular contributor to the dumb and maybe not so dumb question contingent.

You have installed vicidialnow and you can't access internet from that computer?

Have you done this?

The default IP address of the VicidialNow CE 1.2 is 192.168.1.2 but there is no default gateway
defined so you have to manually add the default gateway to have internet access, assuming the default gateway of your network is 192.168.1.1 you have to issue the following command:
route add default gw 192.168.1.1 , if you want the setting to be permanent you have to add the
config to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

or another way to do it is to type setup and a nice graphical menu will show up and just choose configure your network interface thats if the network card installed in your hardware is detected by the operating system

I appreciate the advice and will follow your suggestions as soon as I am ready to dedicate a computer to the system.

My original questions was: Can I configure the sample ViciBox CD and make one call, just to be sure I can successfully make calls from Mainland China.

At this point, I don't have a computer with ubuntu installed the ViciDial system installed. I'm just trying to test the VOIP setup and make one call.

Has anyone made a call from the CD version?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I have ViciBox demo. It's on a CD with ubuntu.

I think the underlying problem is that I can't get connected to the internet. I have two wireless networks and neither are found. I go to network connections and it's empty. This is on all three computers. Am I missing something?

I dont recommend wireless networks, is it possible for you to fix access with a wire?

It better becourse its safer and simpler to config.

And also not sensitive for disturbans

Wireless not detected

Postby gladaseya » Mon Nov 16, 2009 6:26 pm

Thanks Michael but wired is not an option.

There must be a, for lack of a better term, simple way to deal with this problem. I have a Atheros AR5005GS wireless network adaptor. I connect to a TP-Link WR841N The other computers all have TP-Link wireless cards.

I have googled and read a slew of posts and can't make any sense of any of them. They all start a point down a "code" road and I'm still sitting at the intersection of Huh? and really?

I'm trying very hard to become micro (what ever 4 letter work you want to use) and ViciDial but the first step is to get connected. The second step is to see if it will work with my SIP provider and from my location in China. Until I do that I'm stuck between Gates and a hard place.

I really appreciate the help.
